In a bid to woo voters ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress Party on Thursday unveiled a series of key promises, including a ₹500 gas cylinder, a free ration kit, and 300 units of free electricity for every resident if the party comes to power. This marks the fourth major promise made by the Congress as part of its election manifesto.
The announcement was made by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during a press conference, where he emphasized that the party would implement five crucial guarantees aimed at improving the lives of Delhiites. Reddy also criticized both the Modi and Kejriwal governments for their failure to address the city’s pressing issues despite being in power multiple times.”
Modi and Kejriwal are the same in their actions—deceiving the public. Despite being in power for years, Delhi’s living conditions have only worsened. I urge the people of Delhi to vote for Congress, as we will fulfill these five guarantees and bring real change,” Reddy stated.
Congress’ Election Guarantees
This is the fourth guarantee unveiled by the Congress ahead of the Delhi polls. Earlier in January, the party launched its ‘Yuva Udaan Yojana’, offering a monthly stipend of ₹8,500 to educated unemployed youth in Delhi for one year. Additionally, the ‘Jeevan Raksha Yojana’, announced on January 8, promises a ₹25 lakh health cover for residents. The first promise, introduced on January 6, was the “Pyari Didi” scheme, offering ₹2,500 to women.
Delhi Assembly Polls: Key Dates and Context
The Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, and scrutiny of nominations will occur on January 18, with the deadline for withdrawal of candidature on January 20.
Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced significant setbacks in the past two elections. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged dominant, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won just eight seats.
With the elections fast approaching, all eyes are on whether Congress can regain its footing in the national capital.
