IPL 2025 to Start on March 21, Confirms BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla has officially confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will begin on March 21, with the final set for May 25. This announcement comes after much anticipation following the IPL mega auction held in November 2024.

Initially, Shukla had mentioned March 23 as the start date for IPL 2025 but later corrected the information, confirming the tournament will commence two days earlier, on March 21. The 2024 edition of IPL started on March 22, with Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore, and concluded with Kolkata Knight Riders claiming the title on May 26.

BCCI Appoints New Secretary and TreasurerIn another significant development, BCCI has appointed Devjit Saikia as the new Secretary during a crucial meeting in Mumbai on January 12. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has been appointed as the Treasurer.

Additionally, BCCI has named a new IPL Commissioner for a one-year term. The board’s upcoming meeting on January 18-19 will focus on finalizing the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Highlights

During the IPL 2025 mega auction, a total of 182 players were sold out of 577 registered players. The highlight of the auction was Rishabh Pant, who became the most expensive player in IPL history, joining Lucknow Super Giants for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Squads Announced

As of now, only four teams—England, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh—have announced their squads for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
