India T20I Squad for England Series 2025: Shami’s Comeback; Samson and Jurel Named Keepers

Date:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, scheduled to begin on January 22, 2025. The Indian team will take on the defending T20 World Cup champions in what promises to be an exciting contest. England remains undefeated in bilateral series since their T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados.

With the next T20 World Cup set for 2026, this series provides an opportunity for India to experiment and fill the gaps left by key absentees Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. India has been sticking to an aggressive approach in recent times, which has paid off with impressive scores on the board. Players like Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Arshdeep Singh have been pivotal in the team’s success, with Samson and Varma posing significant threats to opposition teams. Arshdeep has emerged as a crucial bowler, consistently providing early breakthroughs.

The most notable inclusion in the squad is pacer Mohammed Shami, who returns to international cricket after a 14-month absence. While the squad sees the rest of India’s Test regulars—Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant—being rested, there are returns for Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

The squad also features dynamic all-rounders such as Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, alongside rising stars like Rinku Singh and Dhruv Jurel, who will keep wicket. The ODI squad for the three-match series against England in February will be announced later.
