Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a historic two-day visit to Kuwait, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 43 years. The visit is set to strengthen the longstanding bilateral relations between India and Kuwait, with a special focus on political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
PM Modi will attend the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup as a special guest of the Emir of Kuwait. During his visit, he will also engage with the Indian diaspora at the ‘Hala Modi’ community event, which will be held at the Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Sports Complex.
Taking to social media, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “This visit will deepen India’s historical linkages with Kuwait. I look forward to meeting His Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. This evening, I will be interacting with the Indian community and will also attend the inauguration ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup.”
At a Special Briefing on the Prime Minister’s visit, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Arun Kumar Chatterjee emphasized the importance of this visit, noting that it holds significant diplomatic value, given the gap of 43 years since the last visit by an Indian Prime Minister. “This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years and therefore assumes considerable significance,” he said.
PM Modi will be accorded a ceremonial guard of honor at the Bayan Palace, the main palace of the Emir of Kuwait. The Prime Minister will then hold separate meetings with the Emir of Kuwait and the Crown Prince, Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah. Additionally, delegation-level talks will be held with Kuwait’s Prime Minister.
The focus of the bilateral talks will include areas such as trade, investment, energy, political cooperation, and people-to-people ties. Both countries are expected to discuss steps to further deepen their partnership and explore new opportunities for collaboration. The Crown Prince will also host a banquet in honor of the Prime Minister.
This visit is expected to pave the way for stronger and more dynamic India-Kuwait relations, with enhanced cooperation in multiple sectors. It is also seen as a significant step towards boosting ties between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
As part of his visit, PM Modi will also visit a labor camp in Kuwait, underscoring the Indian government’s commitment to the welfare of its overseas workers. India has a large community of around one million workers in Kuwait, and this visit highlights the importance the government places on their well-being.
The Prime Minister’s visit is poised to open a new chapter in India-Kuwait relations, reinforcing shared values and creating opportunities for future collaboration. It is expected to further enhance India’s presence in the Gulf region while strengthening the ties with one of the most strategically important countries in the region.
