FIR Against Rahul Gandhi in Parliament Scuffle Transferred to Delhi Police Crime Branch

Published:

The Delhi Police on Friday transferred the case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to the Crime Branch for allegedly pushing and injuring two BJP MPs during a scuffle in Parliament premises. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, involved jostling between MPs from the NDA and INDIA blocs as they protested over “insults to BR Ambedkar.”

The FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi accuses him of “physical assault and incitement” during the altercation. BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured in the commotion and were hospitalized. The BJP claims Gandhi pushed the MPs in an attempt to force his way into the House.

Rahul Gandhi, however, denied the accusations, stating that BJP MPs had threatened, pushed, and blocked his entry to Parliament. He suggested that the BJP’s allegations were a tactic to distract from the ongoing discussion on the Adani Group’s indictment in the U.S.

The FIR, registered at Parliament Street Police Station, includes charges under sections 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 125 (endangering life or personal safety), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.

In response to the incident, Congress also filed a complaint on Thursday alleging misconduct by BJP lawmakers towards Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

A senior Delhi Police officer confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, stating that the Crime Branch will examine all available footage from the incident. The officer also noted that they have received the Congress complaint and will take appropriate action as necessary.

Meanwhile, BJP MPs Sarangi and Rajput, who were undergoing treatment, were reported to be in stable condition.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, criticized the move, claiming that the BJP’s actions revealed their growing “desperation.” She accused the BJP of filing multiple false cases against her brother in a bid to divert attention from key issues.
