Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Imposes Strict Ban on Protests at Parliament House Gates

Date:

In a significant move to preserve order and ensure the smooth operation of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced on Thursday a strict ban on any demonstrations or protests by political parties or Members of Parliament (MPs) at the gates of Parliament House. This directive comes in the wake of a violent altercation between MPs from the NDA and INDIA blocs, which resulted in injuries to two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs.

The Speaker’s order prohibits political groups, individual MPs, or any gatherings of MPs from holding dharnas or protests near the Parliament gates. The decision follows a scuffle that broke out between the MPs, with BJP accusing Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of physically pushing BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput.

As a result of the incident, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Rahul Gandhi. The charges include sections 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or safety), 131 (criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) under the Indian Penal Code.

BJP MPs Still in ICU

The two injured BJP MPs, Sarangi and Rajput, remain under intensive care at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. According to Dr. Ajay Shukla, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, both MPs are being closely monitored.

Sarangi, who suffered a deep cut to his forehead, was brought to the hospital with high blood pressure and anxiety. His wound was stitched, and his condition has since stabilized. Rajput also sustained a head injury and lost consciousness briefly. However, he regained his senses upon arrival at the hospital, and his blood pressure levels are now under control.

Doctors confirmed that both MPs continue to be in critical but stable condition and are receiving ongoing medical attention.
