FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi Over Scuffle at Parliament, BJP Accuses Him of Assault

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, following a scuffle at Parliament that resulted in injuries to two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs.

According to reports, the FIR was filed at the Parliament Street Police Station under various sections, including 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering personal safety), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Earlier in the day, BJP leaders filed a formal complaint against Gandhi, accusing him of “physical assault and incitement” during the altercation. They called for action under sections related to attempt to murder and other serious charges. BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj visited the Parliament Street Police Station to lodge their complaint.

In a separate incident, Congress filed a complaint at the same police station, accusing BJP leaders of misbehaving with their party president, Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress demanded an FIR be filed against BJP leaders under charges of assault, grievous hurt, and battery.

The altercation occurred as both the NDA and INDIA bloc MPs staged protests outside the Parliament complex. The scuffle led to injuries to BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who are currently receiving treatment at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for serious head injuries.

The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing the two MPs during the confrontation. However, Gandhi denied the allegations, claiming that BJP MPs had blocked their path while they were heading to the House. He further stated, “The Home Minister should resign and apologize. The government wants to divert attention from the real issue — the case against Modi’s friend Adani in the US, which they do not want to discuss.”
