IndiGo Flight Receives Water Salute as Noida’s Jewar Airport Completes Successful Test Landing

Date:

An IndiGo test flight from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport landed at Noida’s Jewar International Airport on Monday, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s readiness for commercial operations scheduled to begin in April 2025.

The flight, conducted as part of a technical assessment, followed the completion of all necessary security-related trials at the airport. With this successful landing, officials confirmed that Jewar Airport is now prepared to handle commercial flights.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved the test flight after thorough security checks, and the aircraft safely touched down between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Upon arrival, the IndiGo flight was welcomed with a ceremonial water salute, a traditional gesture of honor for inaugural flights.

Details of the Test Flight

The test flight took off from IGI Airport and reached Jewar Airport in just a few minutes. The aircraft remained airborne for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours before making the final approach and landing. Throughout the flight, the pilot maintained close communication with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ensure safety measures were followed meticulously.“

This trial was crucial to confirm the operational readiness of the airport. If successful, Jewar Airport will be cleared to begin commercial services in April 2025,” said an official.

The test flight did not carry any passengers, with only the crew on board. The runway at Jewar Airport, measuring approximately 3.9 kilometers in length, was designed in collaboration with Zurich Airport Authority in Switzerland to accommodate large aircraft and ensure smooth operations.

With all trials successfully completed, Jewar Airport is now on track to become a major aviation hub in the region.
