J&K: 2 Policeman died and 1 injured in Udhampur in suspected fratricide case

Date:

On Sunday morning, the bodies of two police personnel, riddled with bullets, were found inside a police vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The police have confirmed that an AK-47 rifle was used to kill the two officers.

According to Amod Ashok Nagpure, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Udhampur, the two deceased officers were traveling from Sopore to the Talwara training center when the incident occurred at around 6:30 am. The initial investigation revealed that an AK-47 rifle was the weapon used in the attack. A third police personnel, who was also part of the group, remains unharmed.

The SSP confirmed that the bodies would be transported to GMC Udhampur for post-mortem and other necessary procedures. He described the incident as a case of fratricide and suicide, adding that further investigations are underway to uncover the full details and motivations behind the attack.

This tragic event follows closely on the heels of a similar incident in Jammu, where a Special Police Officer (SPO) was found dead near Wave Mall. The 21-year-old SPO, Kamaldeep Singh from Kathua, had been in Jammu to appear for a written exam for the position of constable. Singh’s father suspected foul play in his son’s death and has called for a thorough investigation into the case, including a review of CCTV footage from the mall.

In a similar case last month, security forces in Jammu’s Kishtwar region discovered the bodies of two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) who had been abducted and killed by terrorists. Their bodies were found approximately 24 hours after their abduction, near a rivulet in the Pondgwari area.

The recent string of violent incidents has raised concerns about security in the region, with authorities intensifying investigations to bring justice to the victims.
