A man has been arrested by Bengaluru police for allegedly murdering his vlogger girlfriend, Maya Gogoi, and spending two days with her corpse at a serviced apartment in Indiranagar. The accused, identified as Aarav Hanoy from Kannur, Kerala, reportedly killed the 23-year-old vlogger from Assam earlier this week.
After the murder, Aarav fled Bengaluru, prompting a manhunt that extended across state borders. He was apprehended outside Karnataka, though authorities have not disclosed the exact location of his arrest. Police were able to track him down using CCTV footage from the apartment where the crime took place. The footage showed Aarav and Maya checking into the serviced apartment on November 23.
Maya, who moved to Bengaluru six months ago, had initially lived with her sister and friend in Whitefield. However, she had recently relocated to Jayanagar after securing a job at a private firm.
The chilling discovery of the murder was made after residents reported a foul smell emanating from the apartment. When police and forensic teams arrived at the scene, they found Maya’s body on the bed. Preliminary examination confirmed multiple stab wounds on her body, and a murder case was filed at Indiranagar Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, D Devaraja, confirmed that Aarav had checked into the apartment with Maya on November 23 and left on November 26. It is believed that he spent the two days in the apartment, smoking near her lifeless body.
The police investigation continues as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the crime.
