Actor-turned-politician and BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, has sharply criticized Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, calling him a ‘daitya’ (monster) who “suffered this fate because he disrespected women.”
In a press interaction in Mumbai on Sunday, Ranaut expressed her disappointment over Thackeray’s political downfall, saying, “I expected such a bad failure from Uddhav Thackeray. We can distinguish between a ‘devta’ (god) and a ‘daitya’ (monster) based on whether they respect women and work for their welfare.”
Ranaut’s comments came in the aftermath of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s massive victory in Maharashtra. She recalled her previous clashes with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which was headed by Thackeray. The actor-turned-politician referred to the demolition of alleged illegal alterations at her Bandra bungalow by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), accusing the MVA of verbally abusing her in the process.“
They demolished my home and verbally abused me,” Ranaut said, adding that such actions have consequences. She went on to express her belief that Thackeray’s failure was a direct result of his disrespect towards women.
Ranaut also praised the BJP’s triumph, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him ‘invincible’ and a leader destined for the country’s “salvation”. She emphasized that the election results served as a lesson to those “talking about breaking the country.”
The BJP-led Mahayuti coalition achieved an overwhelming victory in Maharashtra, securing 233 out of 288 seats. This decisive saffron-led success dealt a significant blow to the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which was reduced to just 49 seats, leaving it without the position of Opposition Leader.
Ranaut commended the people of Maharashtra for their choice, stating, “I saw every child during the campaign chanting ‘Modi-Modi’. The people of India believe in the BJP and its brand.” She further lauded Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, declaring, “He was born for the salvation of the country, and he is invincible.”
