A recent survey conducted by LocalCircles has highlighted the growing health concerns due to air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. Released on Wednesday, the survey shows that 75% of families in the area have at least one member dealing with respiratory problems like sore throats or persistent coughs.
The survey, which gathered responses from over 21,000 residents across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, emphasizes the severe health impact of the region’s air quality, which remains in the ‘severe’ category. Among the participants, 63% were men and 37% were women. Key findings include:
1. 58% of families reported experiencing headaches.
2. 50% of respondents mentioned having a family member suffering from breathing difficulties or asthma.
3. 27% of families have turned to air purifiers as a preventive measure, a significant rise from 18% just a month ago.
4. 23% of families reported taking no preventive action, while others focused on improving immunity through diet.

The survey also noted a troubling increase in health problems associated with pollution. The percentage of families with at least one sick member rose from 69% on November 1 to 75% by November 19, reflecting the worsening air quality and its direct impact on public health.”
Earlier this week, the AQI in Delhi-NCR reached alarming levels, with PM2.5 concentrations in parts of the city touching 1500, leading many to compare the situation to living in a gas chamber,” the survey stated.
As the air quality continues to worsen, authorities have imposed stricter measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-IV, including restrictions on diesel-powered vehicles and construction activities. Schools have switched to online classes, and half of Delhi’s government employees have been asked to work from home.
The survey underscores the urgent need for continued efforts to address air pollution in the region, as families seek ways to cope with its severe health consequences.
