PM Modi Departs for 5-day tour of Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana: Key Agenda Highlights

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a six-day, three-nation visit, which will take him to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16 to November 21. This diplomatic tour is aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships and advancing its strategic interests.

First Stop: Nigeria (November 16-17)

PM Modi began his tour in Nigeria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the African nation in 17 years. The visit, at the invitation of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focuses on reviewing and enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries. During his brief stay, PM Modi will meet with Nigerian leadership and engage with the Indian diaspora in the country.

Second Stop: Brazil (November 18-19)

The next leg of the tour takes PM Modi to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will attend the G20 Summit. As part of his participation, he will present India’s position on key global issues and build on outcomes from previous G20 engagements, including the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and the Voice of the Global South Summits. India is currently part of the G20 “troika,” alongside Brazil and South Africa, and the Prime Minister is expected to hold discussions with other global leaders to advance bilateral cooperation and address critical global challenges.

Final Stop: Guyana (November 20-21)

PM Modi will conclude his tour in Guyana, making the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in over five decades. Invited by Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the Prime Minister’s engagements in Guyana include a bilateral meeting with the President, a speech at the Guyanese Parliament, and an address at the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit. The visit also provides an opportunity to connect with the vibrant Indian diaspora in Guyana.

This diplomatic tour underscores India’s growing global presence and its commitment to strengthening ties with countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
