A devastating car accident in Dehradun earlier this week has left six college students dead and one critically injured, with new evidence suggesting the group may have been drinking before the crash. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at ONGC Chowk, is now under investigation by authorities, who are examining multiple factors that may have contributed to the fatal collision.
According to police, the students were speeding when their Innova car rear-ended a truck at high velocity, resulting in a catastrophic crash. The force of the impact was so severe that some of the victims were reportedly decapitated, and the vehicle was left a twisted, mangled wreck. CCTV footage from the area shows the students’ car traveling at excessive speeds, and it is suspected the car may have been racing a BMW just before the crash.
In the wake of the tragedy, a newly surfaced video from earlier that evening shows the group of students partying, with drinks being poured and consumed, which has led to mounting speculation about whether alcohol played a role in the crash. However, police have not yet confirmed if the students were intoxicated, as autopsy reports are still pending.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and tragically, all six passengers in the car died at the scene. The seventh student, 25-year-old Siddhesh Agrawal, survived the crash but was left with critical injuries and is currently being treated at Synergy Hospital. In an extraordinary turn of events, Siddhesh’s iPhone reportedly sent an emergency SOS message to the police control room, which may have helped alert authorities and contributed to his rescue.
Siddhesh’s father, Vipin Agrawal, has appealed for privacy and urged people not to spread rumors or make assumptions about the circumstances leading to the accident. “Six families have lost their children and are grieving. My son is in the ICU and is still unconscious,” said Vipin Agrawal, adding that the police are investigating and the truth will emerge in due course.
The deceased have been identified as Kunal Kukreja (23), Atul Agrawal (24), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), and Guneet (19). Kukreja was from Himachal Pradesh, while the others were from Dehradun. The authorities have not yet disclosed which educational institutions the students attended.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, offering his deepest sympathy for the tragic loss of young lives. “This is a very sorrowful incident, and my thoughts are with the families who have lost their children,” he said.
As the investigation continues, police are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the exact cause of the crash. The role of alcohol and excessive speed are key aspects under scrutiny, but until the autopsy reports are received, authorities have not confirmed if intoxication was a factor.
