Jaishankar Highlights India’s Proactive Diplomacy for Ukraine and West Asia Solutions

Published:

India is actively working to facilitate diplomatic resolutions to the ongoing conflicts in Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Speaking to the Indian community in Brisbane, Australia, he emphasized India’s unique position to engage with both parties involved in these conflicts.

Jaishankar highlighted the significant global impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, noting that 125 countries from the Global South are experiencing its repercussions. He pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic efforts, which included visits to both Russia and Ukraine this year, as part of a broader strategy to foster dialogue and reduce tensions. Jaishankar underscored the need for a proactive approach, stating that the international community should not adopt a wait-and-see attitude regarding the conflict’s resolution.

Despite initial skepticism about India’s role, Jaishankar observed a growing understanding and support for India’s efforts, particularly among Western nations and the Global South. He expressed hope that continued conversations could pave the way for renewed diplomatic engagement.

In the case of the Israel-Hamas conflict, Jaishankar noted the challenges posed by the lack of direct communication between Iran and Israel. He indicated that India is among the nations attempting to bridge this gap to help stabilize the situation in West Asia.

Jaishankar concluded by warning that instability in these regions has far-reaching implications for global inflation, energy and food security, and supply chains, reinforcing the need for diplomatic interventions.
