In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday evening, four sanitary workers, including two women from Tamil Nadu, lost their lives after being struck by the Kerala Express as they performed their duties near Shoranur Railway Station.
The unfortunate event occurred around 3:05 PM while the workers were clearing garbage from the railway tracks near the Shoranur bridge, just a few kilometers from the station. The workers were contracted by the Railways for sanitation tasks, and reports indicate they were unaware of the approaching train, leading to the tragic collision. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the force of the impact was severe, causing the workers to be thrown off the track.
While the Railway Police swiftly arrived at the scene, three of the victims’ bodies were recovered, and efforts are ongoing to locate the fourth worker, who is believed to have fallen into the Bharathapuzha River as a result of the accident.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. An officer from the Shoranur Railway Police commented, “The workers may not have noticed the approaching train, which resulted in the accident, but further investigations are underway to ascertain the full details of the situation.”
