Bank holidays: Are banks closed on October 31 or November 1 for Diwali?

Diwali Celebration DatesAccording to the Hindu calendar, Diwali, also known as Deepawali, will be observed on October 31. However, certain states that follow regional calendars will celebrate it on November 1.

Banks holiday by state

October 31 (Thursday):

Banks will be closed in the following states: Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana,Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal

November 1 (Friday):

Due to the celebrations of Deepavali, Kut, and Kannada Rajyotsava, banks will remain shut in:Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur

November 2 (Saturday):

Banks in several states will observe a holiday for various festivities, including: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttarakhand

Long Diwali Weekend

Customers should be aware that banks may be closed for up to four consecutive days, creating an extended Diwali weekend. This closure might lead to some disruptions in banking services, but it reflects the cultural significance of the festival in different regions.

Online Banking Services

Despite the physical bank closures during Diwali, online banking services will remain fully operational. Customers can continue to access their accounts through banking apps, websites, and UPI services. ATMs and cash deposit machines will also function normally, ensuring that essential banking services are available throughout the festive period.

As Diwali approaches, it is important for customers to plan their banking activities accordingly. While there may be interruptions in traditional banking services, digital solutions will help maintain access to financial resources during this festive time.
