The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has expressed grave concerns over what it terms a “deep conspiracy” to eliminate party leader Arvind Kejriwal. This follows an alleged attack on the former Delhi Chief Minister during his ‘padyatra’ campaign in Vikaspuri, West Delhi. AAP leaders are accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the incident and have warned that the party will be held accountable if any harm comes to Kejriwal.
At a press conference on Saturday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that Kejriwal was assaulted by “BJP goons” during the campaign. He stated, “The police’s complicity in this incident clearly indicates a deep conspiracy to kill Kejriwal. The BJP has turned into an enemy of his life.” Despite the attack, Singh confirmed that Kejriwal would persist with his campaign as planned, voicing concerns over police inaction, which he suggested revealed bias. “If the police were impartial, this incident wouldn’t have occurred. We understand that the attackers are associated with the BJP’s youth wing,” he added.
When pressed on why no formal police complaint had been filed, Singh responded that it is the police’s responsibility to investigate. “The police can take cognizance of the incident and initiate their probe,” he remarked, noting that AAP is currently seeking legal advice on potential next steps.
BJP’s Response
In contrast, BJP leaders dismissed AAP’s accusations, asserting that Kejriwal was simply facing protests from local residents frustrated with poor water supply in their homes.
Sanjay Singh, however, maintained a defiant stance, asserting that Kejriwal would “neither stop nor bow down” in his pursuit of justice for the people of Delhi. He issued a stern warning: “If anything happens to Kejriwal, the BJP will be held responsible. Even if he sustains a minor injury, the people of Delhi will seek revenge.
