Major Unrest at Jamia Millia Islamia University During Diwali Celebration

Date:

A significant disturbance occurred late Tuesday night at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi during a Diwali event. Tensions erupted when some individuals tampered with the rangoli and diyas, leading to clashes among attendees near Gate Number 7 of the campus. Reports indicate that both students and attendees engaged in shouting slogans amidst the chaos. The situation has since returned to normal.

Slogans of “Long Live Palestine

During the unrest, some participants reportedly shouted slogans in support of Palestine, and there were accounts of intense scuffles among students. The police intervened with the help of other students to restore order, and the situation was diffused after some time. A significant police presence has been deployed on campus, and students have been urged to maintain peace. An official statement can be issued by the university on Wednesday in this matter. Besides, the police can also share information regarding the entire matter. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.

History of Unrest at the University

This is not the first instance of unrest at Jamia Millia Islamia. Earlier this year, in January, a video surfaced showing two to three students shouting slogans like “Strike for Babri.” Following the video’s release, a large police force was stationed outside the university as a precaution. Delhi police officials confirmed that the deployment coincided with the installation of the idol of Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the site where the Babri Masjid stood before it was demolished by activists in 1992.
