BJP Claims ‘Kejriwal Still holding Sheesh Mahal’ amid Atishi Moves to CM house

Date:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised allegations against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal, claiming he has not officially vacated his former official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road, Delhi. This accusation coincided with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s move into the bungalow previously occupied by Kejriwal.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva released a letter purportedly from the Public Works Department (PWD) addressed to Prashant Ranjan Jha, the Special Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Office. Kejriwal had vacated the bungalow on October 4 after ten years in office.

Sachdeva criticized the circumstances surrounding Kejriwal’s departure, suggesting it was more of a public relations stunt than a genuine exit. He stated, “We witnessed the drama of Arvind Kejriwal leaving the bungalow, holding his parents’ hands, but he still retains possession of the ‘Sheesh Mahal.’ His theatrics were simply an attempt to garner sympathy, with Sunita Kejriwal handing over the keys to an official just for the cameras.”

The term ‘Sheesh Mahal’ is used by the BJP to criticize the bungalow, alleging irregularities in its construction and the lavish spending on its interiors.

Sachdeva further explained that the bungalow is not officially designated for the Delhi Chief Minister but is a common pool property managed by the PWD. He mentioned an ongoing investigation by the vigilance department concerning the bungalow’s reconstruction and expansion.

Residents of Delhi have expressed confusion over the situation regarding the keys, speculating on what may be concealed in the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ that prevents Kejriwal from returning it to the Public Works Department, even temporarily.
