The Cabinet has approved the PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and the Krishonnati Yojana, aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and achieving food security, with a total proposed expenditure of ₹1 lakh crore. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw briefed the media in New Delhi, highlighting that these initiatives are designed to increase farmers’ income and ensure food security for middle-class families. Vaishnaw expressed confidence that these measures will lead to a rise in farmers’ incomes.

In addition to the agricultural schemes, the Cabinet also approved the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase II, which will include 128 stations and new lines spanning 118.9 kilometers, connecting the North to the South and the East to the West of Chennai.
Furthermore, the Cabinet conferred the status of Classical Language to Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali. Vaishnaw described this as a historic decision that aligns with the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to celebrating the country’s cultural heritage.
The Cabinet also approved a ‘Letter of Intent’ for India to join the International Energy Efficiency Hub, a global platform focused on enhancing collaboration and promoting energy efficiency. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to sustainable development and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
