The 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup commenced today with a match between Bangladesh and Scotland in Sharjah. The Indian women’s team is set to begin its campaign on October 4, facing New Zealand in their opening Group A match. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team is determined to clinch their first T20 World Cup title, building on the momentum from the men’s team’s impressive performance earlier this year.
Australia remains the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won six out of eight titles, while West Indies and England have each secured one title. The Indian women’s team, fresh off victories against the West Indies and last year’s runners-up, South Africa, is poised to make a significant impact in the tournament.
Group A features Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B includes Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies.
A total of 23 matches will be held over 18 days, culminating in the final scheduled for October 20. India’s squad boasts key players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues, all supporting captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Following their opening match against New Zealand, India will also compete against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Australia in the group stage.
