India has been elected to the 15-member steering committee of the global anti-corruption platform, the GlobE Network, following a multi-stage voting process held in Beijing on Thursday. The GlobE Network comprises 121 member countries and 219 member authorities, with one chair, one vice-chair, and thirteen members on the steering committee responsible for guiding its initiatives.
The election took place during the ongoing fifth plenary meeting of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities. Officials stated that India’s inclusion in the committee positions it to play a crucial role in shaping the global agenda against corruption and asset recovery. A spokesperson from the CBI remarked, “India’s expertise and experience in combating corruption will be invaluable to the GlobE Network.”
Launched in June 2021 at the UN General Assembly Special Session against Corruption (UNGASS), the GlobE Network serves as a unique platform for agencies worldwide to share best practices, exchange criminal intelligence, and develop collaborative strategies to combat corruption.
The CBI emphasized that the GlobE Network is essential for international cooperation, stating, “India’s participation will significantly enhance efforts to combat cross-border financial crimes and corruption.” With India now at the steering committee, it aims to strengthen global initiatives in the fight against corruption.
