Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies Selected as India’s Entry for Oscars 2025, marking a significant moment of celebration for the entire cast and crew. Actor Sparsh Shrivastava, who portrays Deepak Kumar in the film, expressed his excitement, noting the emotional impact this achievement has had on his family.
Sparsh’s mother also expressed her pride, stating, “I am very proud of him, and everyone in the family is happy. We are celebrating this achievement.”
Kiran Rao, reflecting on the recognition of her hard work, said she was thrilled about the Oscar entry, especially considering the competition from other exceptional films this year. “Now we have the chance to show this film to a much larger audience. I want to thank the audience for their love and support. I believe there’s something for everyone in this film,” she noted.
Rao acknowledged the challenges ahead, emphasizing that the film addresses the issues and aspirations of women. “When such a film becomes the country’s official entry to the Oscars, it feels encouraging. We are on a path to finding solutions to many challenges faced by women,” she said. She expressed gratitude to the film’s team, highlighting the effort that went into its creation over four to five years. “The journey to the Oscars is long and difficult, but we will give it our all,” she added.
Laapataa Ladies, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios, was released in theaters on March 1, 2024. The film features a talented cast including Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam.
Kiran also revealed Aamir Khan’s reaction to the Oscar news, saying, “Aamir is extremely happy and congratulated the entire team.” As the team prepares for the upcoming journey to the Oscars, they are filled with hope and determination.
