On Monday, a Delhi court granted bail until December 7 to Abhishek Gupta, CEO of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, and coordinator Deshpal Singh. This follows the tragic deaths of three civil service aspirants. Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna approved their release on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh each, accompanied by two sureties of the same amount. Additionally, Gupta has been ordered to deposit ₹2.5 crore by November 30 with the Red Cross, under the oversight of the lieutenant governor.
The Supreme Court recently instructed a committee appointed by the Centre to investigate the deaths to submit an interim report within four weeks. The bench emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging expedited consultations to implement preventive measures.

The three aspirants who lost their lives—Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh; Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin from Ernakulam, Kerala—drowned after becoming trapped in a flooded basement on July 27.
On September 13, the Delhi High Court had also granted interim bail to four co-owners of the basement linked to this incident, effective until January 30, 2025. Justice DK Sharma, who presided over that case, described the actions of the co-owners as “unpardonable,” highlighting their “greed” in operating a basement coaching center without proper approval.
The court has now urged the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to establish a committee, overseen by a retired High Court judge, to ensure that no coaching centers operate in unauthorized basements across the city.
