During his address at the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the key to humanity’s success lies in global unity rather than conflict. He highlighted the urgent need for reforms in global institutions, implicitly advocating for India’s permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Modi asserted that achieving global peace and development is contingent upon these reforms.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of the safe and responsible use of technology, proposing a global digital governance framework that respects the sovereignty and integrity of member nations. He stated that Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) should serve as a bridge to collaboration, not a barrier, and pledged India’s commitment to contribute its DPI for the global good.
“For India, the principle of One Earth, One Family, One Future is a commitment,” Modi declared. He urged global leaders to address pressing issues such as terrorism, which he described as a significant threat to peace and security worldwide.
Highlighting emerging conflicts in cyber, maritime, and space domains, Modi called for global action that matches international ambitions. He stressed the need for a human-centric approach in discussions about the future, prioritizing sustainable development while ensuring human welfare, food security, and health security.
Noting India’s success in lifting 250 million people out of poverty, Modi expressed readiness to share these experiences with the Global South, asserting that the strength of humanity is rooted in collective effort rather than warfare.
