In his opening remarks, PM Modi stated that the Quad is not positioned against any nation but rather advocates for a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty. “Our message is clear—Quad is here to stay, to assist, to partner, and to complement,” he affirmed, expressing a desire to host the next summit in India.
The summit, part of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, also addressed concerns related to China and activities in the South China Sea.
The leaders issued a joint statement, the Wilmington Declaration, highlighting their commitment to uphold an international order founded on the rule of law. “Anchored by shared values, we seek to uphold the international order based on the rule of law. Together, we represent nearly two billion people and over one-third of global GDP. We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient,” the declaration stated.
Following the summit, PM Modi gifted President Biden a silver-antique train model and presented First Lady Jill Biden with a pashmina shawl, symbolizing the continued friendship and collaboration between the nations.
