Bengaluru: In a significant development, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has approved the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over allegations in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam. This decision follows petitions from T J Abraham, Pradeep, and Snehamayi Krishna, as reported by PTI.

The Governor’s sanction for prosecution marks a crucial point in the ongoing controversy. An official from the Raj Bhavan confirmed, “The Governor has granted sanction for prosecution against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah based on three petitions filed by T J Abraham, Pradeep, and Snehamayi Krishna.”

On July 26, Governor Gehlot issued a “show-cause notice” to CM Siddaramaiah, demanding a response within seven days regarding the potential prosecution. The Karnataka cabinet strongly recommended that the Governor withdraw the notice, accusing him of overstepping his constitutional authority.

MUDA Scam Allegations Explained

The MUDA scam revolves around the alleged exchange of prime land in Mysuru for less desirable land in a remote area. The opposition parties, particularly the BJP and JD(S), claim the scam is valued at approximately ₹3,000 crore, implicating Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, as a beneficiary.

Siddaramaiah has denied the allegations, asserting that MUDA illegally developed a layout on four acres of land owned by his wife in Kesarur, Mysuru, without proper acquisition procedures.

Political Fallout and Opposition Protests

The MUDA site allotment controversy has led to significant political upheaval in Karnataka. The BJP and JD(S) recently concluded a week-long protest march, demanding CM Siddaramaiah’s resignation over the alleged corruption. The protest culminated in a large rally, highlighting claims that MUDA fraudulently allotted sites, including those to Siddaramaiah’s wife.

As this story develops, the political landscape in Karnataka is expected to shift, with potential legal implications for CM Siddaramaiah. Stay tuned to Sampadak Express for the latest updates on the MUDA scam and other key developments.
