Bill Maher admitted he was confused about the latest episode of real time Controversy surrounding Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s Benedictine College commencement speech.
This week, the NFL player faced criticism on social media over his commencement speech at a private Catholic school, which included comments criticizing abortion, euthanasia, in vitro fertilization, surrogacy and the LGBTQ community. He also addressed women in the crowd, suggesting they should embrace being “housewives.”
Maher initially emphasized “how unlike me this guy is,” and publicly stated that Butker is “religious, loves marriage, loves children,” meaning the comedian is not interested. I mentioned all the things that are happening.
“Here’s what he said: ‘I’ve seen with my own eyes how happy people can be when they ignore the outside noise and move closer and closer to God’s will,'” Maher said. Told. “Yeah, not me. I couldn’t have done better.”
However, Maher continued that he did not understand the backlash to Butker’s comments directed at women during his speech.

“I think this is part of the problem that people have with the left, which is that a lot of people in this country are like this,” Maher explained. “I like it when people say what they need to say,” said the EGOT winner. “He went to a Catholic university and is a devout Catholic. These are his beliefs and he welcomes them. I don’t have to believe them, I don’t have to accept them. No, the women sitting in that audience don’t have to accept them either.
Goldberg added, “Just like we want to show respect when Colin Kaepernick takes a knee, we want to show respect to people who think differently than us. Because we want to be president. Because this is what the guy who says, You Know Who says,” is the act of taking away people’s right to say how they feel. We don’t want that to happen. We don’t want to be those people. ”
Amid the backlash caused by the virus, the NFL issued a statement this week clarifying that Butker’s “views are not those of the NFL as an organization.”
